Received Postcards 1-10

Postcard #1

This postcard of Goldens is the first official Postcrossing postcard I have received. And a wonderful one at that! I have a Golden Retriever and always appreciate a good golden photo. I can't stop looking at this. Too cute! It was sent from Scranton, which is the setting of The Office (US) as well a a notable place on my many road trips to Florida until I was 17 (I started flying after that). In fact, I have spent the night there before! Small world :)

          - Traveled 344 miles in 3 days (March 19-22, 2014)

Postcard #2
This postcard is a beautiful map of Finland. Finland holds a spot in my heart as my great grandfather (who died shortly after I was born) was born there. My last name is Finnish as well. I am trying to learn more about Finland, so it was fitting that the first international postcard I have ever received is from Finland. Loving the Hello Kitty stickers, nice touch :D

Postcard FI-2046410
-Received from Mutsi1 in Turku, Finland
          -Traveled 3,716 miles in 7 days (March 17-24, 2014)

Postcard #3
This awesome postcard is of Penny, Rufus, and Teddy. It is a scene from Disney's "The Rescuers". In Germany it is apparently called "Bernard & Bianca". I had just re-watched this about a week before receiving this. I wish the USA had classic Disney postcards. Pretty stamp and unique postmark as well. :)

Postcard DE-3012667
-Received from Lemmine in Munster, Germany
          -Traveled 3,454 miles in 5 days (March 21-26, 2014)

Postcard #4

This is a cool postcard of Prague, Czech Republic the capitol. It is quite beautiful. It was nice to see it as I honestly do not know much, if anything about the country. The postcard is exactly double the size of a standard postcard, which was unique. The stamp is quite beautiful and also larger than I have seen; about four times larger than US stamps.

Views of beautiful Ghent, Belgium which is 1 hour from Herentals. The stamp is neat how it is made up of words. Also, the postmark is cute how it has a little envelope on it. Love the plane on the priority sticker.

Non-Postcrossing Personal Collection 1-10

In no particular order...

Postcard #1
I lived in Providence, RI for a year. Every winter before the holidays there was a store named Craftland that opened up. It was an array of crafts done by many artists all in one store. Almost like a craft fair without the artists. This store was quite a bit more unique than any craft show I have been to (I regularly go to them here in Maine). Much more to my kind of style. Providence is very artsy, which is probably why I loved living there. This postcard is of a tiger wire sculpture. I learned how to make these in 6th grade, so I kept the postcard because it was neat and more elaborate than the one I had made. It has been hanging on a magnetic strip in my craft room. Notice the back has wire postcard designs.

Postcard #2
I got this postcard from my stuffed animal Winnie when she visited her host Heather in Virginia. Winnie was part of a "Little Visitor" craft swap. We sent each other our stuffed animals (Winnie the lamb and Icebox the Penguin), took them on adventures, scrapbooked about the adventures, and sent along souvenirs. Winnie and Heather went to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.

Postcard #3
Winnie took two more visits with Heather after that. If I remember right, this postcard was sent during her 2nd visit while she was on vacation. Postmarked June 29, 2010

Postcard #4
This postcard was sent to me in a craft swap by someone who lives in Cleveland. It is of "The Terminal Tower, built in 1930, [it] is the second tallest building in Cleveland at 708ft". I like how the back has the image on it and the small box in the corner shows what part of the picture the description is describing.

Postcard #5
Same sender as the last. This one reads "Visitors to Cleveland, OH enjoy a wealth of museums including the lakeside museum dedicated to music and the history of Rock 'n Roll. Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed coined the term 'Rock 'n Roll'"

Postcard #6
Same sender as the previous two.

Sent Postcards Designs 1-10

I got this postcard when Borders bookstore went out of business. This was long before I got into Postcrossing and I never knew what I was going to do with it, but $0.10 just seemed like too good of a deal when it was originally $1.25. I liked the image and it was one of the few designs left on the rack.

This postcard (border is actually white) was also on the rack at Borders when they went out of business. I recently found another source of these postcards, so I can continue to buy them. It is a picture of my honorary hometown (I went to school there from kindergarden on), Wiscasset, Maine. My actual hometown is too small and out of the way to have its own postcard. This town is on US-1, so I like to stand on it and feel connected to Florida.

This postcard is of the Hesper & Luther Little in Wiscasset, Maine. They were twin schooners abandoned on the shore of Wiscasset in 1932. A man bought them for $600 each for the purpose to ship lumber to Boston and bring back coal. However he died before that dream was seen. These ships remained until 1998 and had to be removed because of fire and storm damage. They were often photographed by tourists and still remain a rich part of Wiscasset's culture.

This postcard is of Atlantic Puffins on Seal Island, Maine. Puffins are my favorite bird. I used to enjoy watching them dive into the water at SeaWorld Orlando, but they have since removed the puffin exhibit in favor to expand the penguin exhibit into a ride. I have yet to see a puffin here in Maine, but it is because I have not gone to the right islands yet.

Another Wiscasset, Maine postcard. Wiscasset in the modern day is known for two things: Red's Eats and traffic and they go hand in hand. Located on US-1 Red's Eats, a food stand, is so popular with tourists that its pedestrians are the primary cause of traffic that can go for miles. They are known for their lobster rolls that pack an entire lobster in them. In my professional opinion as a Mainer, it is an over rated place, which only gained popularity because of visits from celebs and being featured on places like The Travel Channel. You cant see it, but right behind Reds in this picture is the waterfront, and on that waterfront is a place called Sprague's. The lines are shorter, the food is fresh, they actually carry whole lobsters as well, ample seating, right on the water, and cheaper. Red's, however, is an icon to Wiscasset, which is why I have a few postcards of it in my stack.
